Portland Head Light
Probably the most iconic of all the lighthouses in Casco Bay, the Portland Head Light does not disappoint. It is located on the Fort Williams Park grounds, which are open year around from sunrise to sunset. It is fun to photograph both from the air and from the ground.
Halfway Rock Light
Located halfway between Seguin Island and Portland, the Halfway Rock Light was first lit in 1871. Prior to this time, there had been a number disasterous shipwrecks on these rocks. It’s hard to imagine life as a lighthouse keeper in the middle of Casco Bay in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. No electricity, radio, TV or other communication devices, just another, perhaps surly, lighthouse keeper. There is history of keepers going mad while stationed there. Rams Head Light
This light house was first lit in 1905. It was constructed due to many shipwrecks just outside of Portland Harbor. It is now a privately owned lighthouse. For more informations see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ram_Island_Ledge_Light
Cape Elizabeth Rock
From the air, it is a little difficult to see this lighthouse due to the encroachment of suburbia. The light closest to the shore is still active, the tower in the lower right hand corner is the defunct second lighthouse. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Elizabeth_Lights
